Flashcard Wizard is freeware!

Flashcard Wizard 1.2 (2.7 MB), Flashcard Wizard is a powerful flashcard study environment. Besides the ability to practice flashcards with 2 or 3 fields of information, these fields may include pictures and non-roman text for language study. Flashcard Wizard's most unique and useful functions, however, come from its "Interval Study" features. Interval study helps you in review of your material by choosing only those words for review which are likely to be soon forgotten. Read me file (PPC, 68k, OS 7.5 or later, although freeware, registration is welcome). Screenshots of making a flashcard, and a finished product. Homepage (more screenshots are available here).

Mac Freeware!!!

Cabrio PR3 (910 KB), A compact, and classy mp3 player with beautiful skins. It is very stable and doesn't skip as often as other players. Read me (PPC). Screenshot of Cabrio in different skins. Homepage (you can also download the skin creator app here).

CinematiX:2 (216 KB), This program allows you to watch movies at fullscreen. You can also watch movies in its original size. The program has an interactive progressbar to let you forward or rewind the movie with the mouse. Read me (PPC, MacOS 8.6 or later, CarbonLib). Homepage.

Free Guard 1.4 (1169 KB), Free Guard is a utility to hide files and folders. It is password protected at application startup. Nothing is encrypted, and someone could still make the files and folders visible without too much trouble. It is based on the "if they do not know its there, they wont look for it" theory. Read me. Screenshot. Homepage.

Iconizer Pro 1.3.3 (1216 KB), Iconizer Pro is an application developed for generating a set of 32 bit (16 millions, full colors) icons from any pictures. This feature is normally used for creating a background of CD, folder or other container windows. The output icons can also be viewed on any Mac OS but Mac OS 8.5 or higher is required to view 32 bit color. Read me (PPC). Screenshot of the background of the folder after 'iconizer'. Homepage (registration required, server is slow).

Kogniz (359 KB), Kognix is an elegant puzzle game for the Macintosh which promises to keep puzzle solvers of all skill levels on their toes. It combines a classic brain-teaser with beautiful graphics and gentle sound effects. Screenshot of the Kognix game. Homepage.

Leibniz (2.7 MB), Leibniz is a graphical front end to Mathematica (version 3 and later) on Macintosh and Windows computers which allows you to type mathematical text and carry out calculations using a simple, drag and drop style of expression manipulation. Leibniz is a mathematical word processor: it allows you to quickly and easily type text and structured mathematical expressions. You can launch calculations from within Leibniz by selecting an expression to evaluate and hitting enter, or by selecting a portion of an expression and dragging it around the expression to launch a calculation. Leibniz uses MathLink to communicate with the Mathematica kernel, sending expressions to Mathematica for evaluation and translating the results back into nicely formatted mathematical expressions. Read me (MacOS 7.5). Screenshot. Homepage (free only as a text and equation editor).

Loan Calc (873 KB), Loan Calc is intended to calculate Loans payments in a very simple way. Also it generates a full payments list from a start date and calculates total interest. Loan Calc is currency independent so it can be used with Dollars, Francs, Marks, Pounds,...or whatever you like. Just use a dot for decimals. Loan Calc allows you to save all the payments list to a text file or an Excel sheet. Read me (PPC and 68k). Screenshot of Loan Calc in action. Homepage.

Tide Stamp World 2.0.2 (472 KB) for Australia, Canada, amd North America. Tide Stamp is a tide and current predictor. Read me (MacOS 7 or later). Screenshot of the tidal chart results. Homepage (ports of the UNIX X-tide).

Type/Creator Database, Look for PC exchange, PC extensions, and duplicates. Every Macintosh file has two four-character codes associated with it - its type and creator. The Creator code is unique to each application and enables the Finder to attach documents to their parent applications. This way you can "double click" on the Icon of a document and MacOS will open it with its correct application. The Type code lets this application to differentiate among its files. Type/Creator Database is a collection of those codes (PC extensions are also available).Screenshot. Homepage (a valuable resource for every computer user).

Happy New Millenium

Modeller Lite (1248 KB), Presenter Lite (1075 KB), The Lite version of the Modeler and Presenter modules offer a modeling size limit (500K) with render size of 320x240. Being a spline-based modeler, you are easily able to create organic shapes that are equivalent to ten times or larger to those create with a polygonal modeler. This makes the Lite version an effective 3D tool for website and CD imagery and animation development. Screenshots of the Modeller Lite, and the Presenter Lite. Homepage. A great tutorial for beginners on 3D graphics (based on Modeller and Presenter) is available here. More advance tutorials are listed here. You may have to fill up this registration page.

newI have recategorized the utilities section into more manageable files. All new additions will have a date, and all pages have a date the download links were last checked. I have also color-categorized the freeware into 'orange'-- good for downloading at the time i checked, and 'red'--broken link or is now shareware. The new HTML files are much smaller, and should load faster. PS: These files also use CSS. So if you use iCab, you will not be able to see the color-categories.

Youkoso! Japanese readers, domo sumimasen. The link to the Excite.co.jp translation services was horrendously wrong. Anyway, i have redirected the link to the translations service page proper. Just type in the macfreewares url. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Musings I just realized that after MacOS X, Mac OS will no longer exist, at least not in its original form. It will no longer be about how Apple lost the OS war, but in the new millenium it will be about UNIX (MacOS X, Linux etc) vs Windows. However it will still be about the better vs the common.

Happy New Year to all visitors. If you come across any broken links, drop me a line... Please write to me or post the missing links on the Bulletin Board. Your help is much appreciated.

Connection problems

Sorry for the lack of updates here. I was unable to log into myspot.com neither ftp nor http. From Mr Ron's suggestions, i used the freeware 'What Route', and trace routed my connection to the myspot.com IP address. There was a blockage at one of the servers. I emailed the server manager yesterday, and everything is back to normal now.

You can also go to the mirror site for the latest updates as i update both these sites at the same time. Please write to me or post the missing links on the Bulletin Board. Your help is much appreciated.

Utilities: MacShell and SlidePad

MacShell 1.6.3 PPC (803 KB), 68k (819 KB), A file browser and launcher similar to MacOSX, Greg's Browser, and Windows Explorer (no drag and drop here). There is a virtual folder to keep your favourite bookmarks. You can also get info, trash, find your files from this great freeware. There is even a small preview window for your files. Remember to increase the memory allocation for best performance especially if you have lots of files in a folder. (The manual is in Japanese, but it is a simple to use utility). Screenshot. Homepage (in Japanese).

SlidePad 0.7 (824 KB), A wonderful utility somewhat similar to Sig Software's DropDrawers but with less features. A calendar and clock is included, and drawers for favorite applications, folders, utilities, and text. You can keep this window open, or set it to auto slide out when the mouse is over the pad. The ticks on the left side is actually time, and the color changes with time. It should be quite intuitive, mostly drag and drop. For the folders, you should paste different icons for better navigation (although the name of the folder is also included). The text section is for you to copy your frequently used text (although clippings don't seem to work in this release). Please increase the memory allocation. (Although the software and the manual is in Japanese, it is a simple to use utility, and it's free). Screenshot. Homepage (in Japanese).

The broken link to MindExpander in the De/Compression section has been repaired. Sorry for the inconvenience. The myspot server seems to be having problems these few days. You can always go to the mirror site for the latest updates. Please write to me or post the missing links on the Bulletin Board. Your help is much appreciated.
