First Steps

A new chapter of the manual was added for the 1.3 release. The last chapter lists changes from the previous major release of ServerStat. If you are a previous user of ServerStat, you can pick up on what has changed by looking here.

Changes related to the minor releases of ServerStat are documented in the Read Me file which you are looking at now.

New Features since the last major release

Two new lists have been created to allow users more flexibility in determining what gets included in their ServerStat reports: the Result_In list; and, the Referer_In list.

Result_In List: This list is used to scan the RESULT token in a WebStar (or WebStar compatible) log file. If this list is used, ServerStat will compare entries in this list with the RESULT token in a WebStar log file. If the RESULT token does not match an entry in this list it will not be included in the report.

If you are using the Rewrite-Fil or Resolve-Fil report types, this list is active. So, you can generate a report or new log file that includes just certain entries in the RESULT token.

You can enter values in this list in the Configuration Window or in the Additional Settings dialog box. Examples are shown below:

RESULT_IN "Err!"
RESULT_IN "OK*"
Referer_In List: This list is used to scan the REFERER token in a WebStar (or WebStar compatible) log file. If this list is used, ServerStat will compare entries in the Referer token with the values in this list. If the REFERER token does not match an entry in this list, it will not be included in the report.

If you are using the Rewrite-Fil or Resolve-Fil report types, this list is active. So, you can generate a report or new log file that includes just certain entries in the REFERER list.

If you have a need to track server activity by a particular referer, this feature is designed to let you do this. You can enter values in this list in the Configuration Window or in the Additional Settings dialog box. Examples are shown below:

REFERER_IN "http://www.yourcompany.com/*"
REFERER_IN "http://www.kitchen-sink.com/*"

Changes since the last major release

A few changes in this release of ServerStat. A new Frontier Install file and DocServer source file have been included. The new version includes a verb for the dnsProcessing command in both the install file and the DocServer source.

In the Additional Settings dialog box, the order of the buttons for the lists has changed. There are now three groups of lists.

The first group of buttons includes lists that effect what gets included in a report. With the exception of INCLUDE and EXCLUDE lists, these are also the lists that effect the Rewrite-Fil and Resolve-Fil report types. The lists included here are: Include List; Exclude List; Filter In List; Filter Out List; Result_In List; and, Referer_In List.

The second group of buttons includes items which effect the display of the report. This group includes: Domain List; Arc. Override List; Sub. Override List; and, Referer_Out List.

The third group of buttons includes items related the tokens in the log file. The user-defined nature of the WebStar and WebStar compatible logs required some user configuration so that ServerStat knows the initial configuration of the log format.

Fixes in this release

There are three general fixes since the 1.3 release of ServerStat.

  1. Third party compatible logs

Starting with the 1.3 release of ServerStat the [SUBDIRECTORY] report keyword has caused some problems with the parsing of the URL token. In 1.3.1 a fix was made to eliminate a problem when using the PREFIX command. In this release a fix was made to allow a variation of the WebStar log format in the URL token. In WebStar, the token always begins with a ":" to represent the WebStar Root folder. Some third party WebStar-log compatible products use the URL token slightly differently. They do not include a ":" at the beginning of the token. With the 1.3.2 release, these log formats are again supported.

  2. The PREFIX command

If you entered a prefix command that included the trailing ":", ServerStat would go into an infinite loop trying to determine the last subdirectory in the path to the file.

  3. %'s in the Search_Arg and Path_Arg tokens

If a percent sign in the Search_Arg or Path_arg token was followed by a number and then followed by a letter d or f and you were using the rewrite or resolve option, ServerStat would attempt to write a number rather than the code included in the original token.

How to Update ServerStat

If you received this file with an update for ServerStat, follow these steps to update your existing ServerStat application to the current release:

  1. Launch the UpdateMaker application. Note the version number of your existing version and the version of the UpdateMaker application. The updaters will only work with the two versions specified in the update application's name. Other update versions are available from the updater page

  2. Locate your current ServerStat application.

  3. Click on the Update button.

  4. Wait for the update to be made.

If you have trouble with the updater, make sure you have the correct version updater. This is the most common problem.

If you can't get the updater to work, contact support for an updated application to be sent to you. If you are a registered user, there is no problem sending you a new version by e-mail.
