What does MacHeadlines Lite do?
MacHeadlines Lite is the *FREE* version of MacHeadlines Pro. MacHeadlines is a specialized Internet browser that gathers and displays headlines from web sites around the world. It puts a thin ticker-style window on your Mac desktop, where current headlines scroll by. Double-clicking a headline will open your browser to show the full story!

MacHeadlines uses a built-in parsing engine which "teaches" itself which parts of the web site are genuine headlines, and which parts of the web site are not headlines.

The most powerful MacHeadlines feature can only be found in MacHeadlines Pro, which allows you to track headlines from virtually any web site of your choosing worldwide, and then add up to 32 of those web sites to MacHeadlines' list of Tracked Web Sites in the Preferences dialog. Additionally, MacTuner Pro allows you to edit or remove any tracked web site, as well as import and export tracked web sites. News, Sports, Stocks, Financials, Movie Reviews, Television Schedules, Software Releases, Consumer Product Reviews, Auto News, Weather Reports, Traffic Reports, World Newspapers, and an endless number of other sources of on-line data can be easily tracked in a ticker-tape style window with MacHeadlines Pro. MacHeadlines Pro also saves all Ticker Appearance preferences, allowing full customization of MacHeadlines on your Mac. And, of course, registered copies of MacHeadlines which have been unlocked with purchased License Keys do not have any shareware notices, expiration timeout periods, or other restrictive devices.

Requirements
* Mac OS 7.5.1 or better.
* Open Transport 1.1 or better.
* For headline launching, Internet Config 2.x or the Internet Control Panel (available with Mac OS 8.5 or better) are required.

Where can I find the Latest Version?
The latest version of MacHeadlines Lite and MacHeadlines Pro can be found at http://www.macalive.com

Using MacHeadlines Lite
The first time you run MacHeadlines, you will be presented with the MacHeadlines Preferences dialog (which you can later access from the Edit menu, by holding down the Control key while clicking on the Ticker window, or by holding down the Apple key while pressing "E").

The Preferences dialog has four panels, which control different aspects of MacHeadlines:
1. Miscellaneous
2. HTTP Proxy
3. Tracked Web Sites
4. Ticker Appearance (Note: only MacHeadlines Pro saves the Ticker Appearance preferences)

Move the cursor over any item in the Preferences dialog to receive an explanation for that item.

If your Internet Service provider (ISP) or network uses an HTTP Proxy Server, be sure to configure the HTTP Proxy settings in the HTTP Proxy panel.

Apart from that, there is no setup you must do, though you may wish to change the location, size, fonts, and colors of the Ticker window with the Miscellaneous and Ticker Appearance panels.

How often does MacHeadlines update it's headlines?
If the "Delayed circulation" checkbox is not checked, MacHeadlines will check for new headlines every 20 minutes. If the "Delayed circulation" checkbox is checked (and MacHeadlines is circualting sites), each site gets 20 seconds for each of the headlines retrieved from that site.

Freeware Notice
MacHeadlines Lite is Freeware. You may freely distribute MacHeadlines Lite as long as it is not modified in any way.

Additionally, MacTuner Pro allows you to edit or remove any tracked web site, as well as import and export tracked web sites.
